Wider learning – how to add knowledge and success to your studies
Whether you are a first
year/level 4 student, or a continuing student (or anyone interested in design!), it is necessary to keep creative and add to your skill base - sketches, photos, small test projects that you set yourself – materials research,
measuring space, photography, collage, line drawing, model making – this can be experimental,
sketch development etc.
You will
also benefit from reading about design, architecture, spaces and related design
topics on a regular basis. You might watch a documentary on design or visit an exhibition and then
write a short review of it. This will make you think about issues and how you
relate to them and widen your general knowledge and understanding. Keep a blog - add your work, ideas, thoughts and news - share with others.

Keep up to
date of current trends and what is shown in galleries and exhibition spaces in
London, locally and beyond, as a lot will be relevant. The more you see and think about
design, the better. Look also at materials – anything from timber, stone, glass, concrete…
sustainable materials and smart technologies. Interactivity in design – all
very exciting things to start learning about.
